How we text before-and-after photos on every job
You should not have to take our word for it. Here is exactly what lands in your text thread after every job — and what we deliberately do not send.
By Monte Wallenstein Published
Monte Wallenstein, owner of USA Gutter in the Portland metro since 2009, gets this question on almost every quote call in 2025: “How do I know you actually did the work if I am at the office?” Fair question. You are paying for something you often cannot see from the ground. So we document every gutter, roof, window, and wash job and text you the proof the same day — not eventually, not if you ask, not as an add-on.
This is how it works.
Before we touch anything
The crew walks the property with a phone and shoots what we see:
- Gutters — each run from ground level and from the ladder, focusing on corners and downspout ties
- Roofs — moss density, algae streaks, debris in valleys, anything loose at the ridge
- Windows — the worst panes, streak patterns, screen condition, track debris
- House washes — full elevation of the dirty face, close-ups of algae or mildew patches
- Pressure washing — driveway or patio coverage, oil spots, embedded moss in concrete joints
These are not pretty photos. They are evidence. If a gutter run was packed with fir needles, you will see fir needles. If the north wall was green, you will see green.
During the job (when it matters)
Most jobs do not need mid-work photos. We take them when something unexpected shows up:
- A loose gutter spike or separated seam
- Moss under a satellite dish we need to work around
- A downspout that failed a flush test and needed snaking
- Siding damage we did not cause but want you to know about
If we find something outside the quote — a cracked elbow, a fascia board that is soft — we stop, photograph it, and call or text before doing any extra work. No surprise line items.
After we finish
Same angles, same elevations, same downspout corners. For gutters that means post-scoop trough shots and a short video of the downspout flush test. For roof work, the treated slope after rinse. For windows, the south wall that was streaked. For a house wash, the north elevation that went from green to clean cedar grain.
We bag gutter debris on site and photograph the bags if you want proof it left your property. Christmas light installs get a dusk shot with everything lit.
Everything goes to the number you gave us at booking — usually within an hour of the crew packing up.
What we do not do
- We do not send stock photos or another house from last year
- We do not filter images to make marginal work look perfect
- We do not skip the “before” because it is embarrassing — that is the whole point
- We do not make you log into a portal or download a PDF
One text thread. Your house. Your date.
Why this matters beyond bragging rights
Photo proof is how you know the spring gutter cleaning actually happened before fire season. It is how a landlord documents turnover. It is how you compare moss regrowth year over year after roof treatment. It is how you catch a problem — a failing spike, a cracked tile — while it is still cheap to fix.
We have been doing this since before it was trendy. When you hire a contractor, photo documentation should be standard, not a premium upgrade.
If you are not getting photos from whoever cleans your house
Ask why. If the answer is “our guys do not have time” or “we only do photos on request,” that tells you something about how the job is run on days you are not watching.
Every USA Gutter job — gutters, roof, moss, windows, house wash, pressure wash, lights — gets the same treatment. Call 503-995-1947 and we will show you what we found on yours.
