Portland Christmas Light Installation — Year-Round Booking, Installed and Removed
Christmas light installation for Portland-area homes since 2009 — specialized exterior cleaning crew, not a seasonal pop-up. Unlike seasonal-only competitors, we book year-round: early scheduling, off-season planning visits, January removal, and storage at one written price quoted before work starts. Photo documentation on every installation.

What’s included in a Christmas light installation
A standard Christmas light installation from USA Gutter, Window, & Roof Cleaning is more than just hanging strings of lights for a weekend. The written quote covers a design consultation (in person or by video walk-through), commercial-grade LED lights and bulbs sized to your rooflines and trees, professional installation by trained and insured crew, mid-season service calls for any bulbs or sections that fail during the lit season, scheduled takedown in January, and optional off-season storage in a labeled bin. The whole package is priced as a single fixed amount before any work starts. We do not bill hourly for any part of the seasonal cycle, and we don’t add upcharges for second-story access, tall trees, or roof-edge sections — those are factored into the quote up front.
Things to watch out for
A few things to know before booking any provider — not just us — for Portland Christmas light installation:
- Lights stapled, nailed, or screwed into gutters or fascia damage the gutter coating and create rust entry points. We use only non-damaging clips.
- Cheap residential-grade light strings sold at big-box stores have a lifespan of one or two seasons in PNW wet weather. Commercial-grade LED strings last five-plus seasons and look brighter.
- Mid-December bookings are sometimes accepted by competitors who then push the installation past Christmas if weather windows don’t appear. Booking early avoids this entirely.
- “Free design consultation” sometimes really means an upsell visit. Our consultation is genuinely free and produces an itemized written quote you can compare against any other provider.
We try to be transparent about all of this during the initial conversation because most customers booking holiday lights for the first time don’t know what questions to ask.
Who this service is right for
Christmas light installation is the right service for any Portland homeowner who wants a clean, professional installation without the December weather risk of DIY ladder work — and especially for two-story and three-story homes, hillside properties where the install requires extension ladders on slopes, families with young children who’d rather spend the time on other holiday traditions, and homeowners who already know they want a particular roofline outlined or tree wrapped but don’t have the time or equipment to do it themselves. Commercial properties, small businesses, and HOAs that want a coordinated holiday look across multiple buildings or units make up a steady portion of our December route as well.
Equipment, safety, and method
We install lights from stabilized extension ladders, fall-arrest harnesses above one story, and roof jacks where roof access is needed. Lights are secured with non-damaging clips designed for the specific surface — shingle clips, gutter clips, or fascia clips — rather than staples, nails, or screws that puncture the surface. Power management is planned in advance: we estimate wattage loads against available outlets, recommend timer or smart-plug options if you want them, and avoid daisy-chaining beyond manufacturer ratings. Crew members carry the same insurance and insurance coverage they carry on any other job — Christmas-light work is treated as roof-and-ladder work, not as casual seasonal labor.
What happens after the work
After installation, you’ll get a same-day photo of your home lit at dusk so you have a record of the install. If a bulb or string fails during the lit season, a call or text gets us back out for a no-charge service visit — that’s part of the written agreement, not a separate transaction. Takedown happens on a scheduled visit in early to mid-January; you don’t need to be home if you don’t want to be. If you’ve opted for storage, your labeled bin goes into our off-season storage until next season’s install, when the same crew puts the same lights back on the same home — which is faster and produces more consistent results than starting fresh every year.
If you’d like a free Christmas light installation quote for your Portland-area home or business, the earlier the better — a phone call any month of the year gets you on the calendar.

How it works
- 1
Year-round design consultation
We book consultations any month of the year — not just October. Spring and summer site visits often produce better designs because we can see the rooflines and tree branches more clearly than during the December rush.
- 2
Written quote with lights included
We quote a single fixed price covering design, lights and bulbs, installation, takedown after the season, and storage between seasons if you want it. No hourly billing, no surprise add-ons after the lights are up.
- 3
Professional installation by trained crew
Installations are done by trained, insured crew on stabilized ladders with proper fall-arrest gear. Lights are secured to gutters, fascia, or rooflines with non-damaging clips — never staples or nails through the gutter coating.
- 4
Mid-season service if needed
Bulbs go out, branches knock strings loose, windstorms happen. Mid-season service calls during the lit season are part of the written agreement, not a separate charge.
- 5
Post-season removal
Lights come down on a scheduled visit after the season — typically early to mid-January. We do not leave installations up to weather year-round, and there's no charge for the takedown visit.
- 6
Off-season storage option
We can store your lights between seasons in a labeled, dry off-season bin so you don't have garage clutter and so the same set is ready for next year's install.
Why Portland homes specifically
Portland's December weather makes professional Christmas-light installation a different category than in drier climates. Wet roofs, slick gutters, and short daylight windows make DIY installation on a two-story PNW home genuinely dangerous — and waiting until late November to book means the metro's best crews are already full. Year-round booking solves both problems: families lock in their spot in spring or summer, design choices get made unhurried, and the install itself happens on the right weather window in November rather than whatever rare dry hour appears in mid-December.
Frequently asked questions
- Do you only install Christmas lights during October and November?
- No — we book Christmas light installations year-round, which is unusual in the Portland market. Most local providers only answer the phone October through December and turn off the service the rest of the year. We take consultation calls, do site visits, and lock in installations any month of the year. Early booking guarantees your install date and often produces better designs because the planning isn't rushed.
- When should I book my Portland Christmas light installation?
- The honest answer is the earlier the better. Bookings in spring and summer guarantee install dates in the first half of November, before weather and demand compress the schedule. Bookings in September or October fill the back half of November and early December. Last-minute bookings after Thanksgiving usually mean waiting for whatever rare weather window appears, and some neighborhoods may not be available at all by mid-December.
- Do you provide the lights or do I buy them?
- Either way. Most customers prefer that we supply commercial-grade LED light strings and bulbs as part of the written quote — they last longer, look more uniform, and we replace failed bulbs mid-season at no extra charge. If you have a specific set or color scheme you want to use, we'll install your lights at the same quoted labor cost. We'll be honest during the quote about whether the lights you own are worth installing or due for replacement.
- Do you do takedown and storage too?
- Yes — both are included in the standard written quote. Takedown happens on a scheduled visit in January, typically the first two weeks. Off-season storage is optional but popular: we keep your lights in a labeled bin so the same set is ready for next year's install and your garage stays clear. Customers who want to keep their lights at home can do that too — we coil them carefully into a bin for you to store.
- Are you licensed and insured for ladder work and roof installations?
- Yes. We're a specialized exterior cleaning company — categorized under janitorial services, not general contracting — and we carry general liability and workers' compensation insurance. Christmas-light installation involves the same ladder, fall-arrest, and roof-safety practices as our gutter and roof work — stabilized ladders, harnesses above one story, no walking on aged cedar shake or fragile tile. We've been doing this work in Portland for more than 16 years.
- Can you do commercial Christmas light installation for storefronts or HOAs?
- Yes. Commercial installs — storefronts, small office buildings, HOAs, and property-management common areas — are a regular part of our December route. We handle design, installation, mid-season service, takedown, and storage on a single seasonal contract with a written quote. Book as early as possible; commercial slots fill earliest because most properties want the same November installation week.

What customers say
Had my cedar shake roof cleaned earlier this week. Had them return to seal and treat the roof. Once again the crew arrived on time (rare these days), got right to work and did a superb job. And just like last time, they cleaned up the work area and even used window-clean tools to clean the skylight. So they left leaving the place in better condition than when they arrived. It is SOOO refreshing to have a contractor (and the works) do what they said when they said and for the price quoted. These guys are GREAT!
