Portland Gutter Cleaning — Hand-Cleaned, Photo-Documented
We've hand-cleaned Portland-area gutters since 2009. Every job gets a written quote before work starts, every downspout is flushed and tested, and homeowners receive before-and-after photos the same day. We serve 14 metro cities from Beaverton to Vancouver, WA.

What’s included in a standard gutter cleaning
Every gutter cleaning visit from USA Gutter, Window, & Roof Cleaning covers the same checklist regardless of home size. We hand-remove all debris from the gutter troughs — leaves, fir needles, shingle grit, seed pods, branches, the occasional tennis ball — and bag it for disposal. We then flush each downspout with water from the top to confirm it drains all the way through to the splash block or underground drain line. While we’re on the ladder we visually inspect hangers, seams, end caps, and the fascia board behind the gutter, and we note anything that’s about to fail. Finally, we rinse any debris splatter off the siding and walkways below so your home looks better than when we arrived.
Things to watch out for
A surprising number of Portland gutter problems are not gutter problems at all — they’re downspout problems, drain-line problems, or fascia problems hidden behind a clogged trough. Common findings on our routes:
- Underground drain lines clogged with root infiltration where downspouts tie into the yard. Clearing the top of the gutter does nothing if the drain below is blocked.
- Rusted-through gutter sections on north-facing roofs where moss has been growing on the gutter coating itself.
- Soft fascia from years of overflow — wood that looks fine from the ground but crumbles under a screwdriver.
- Gutter spikes that have pulled out half an inch, leaving the run pitched backward and pooling water.
We flag all of these in our photo report rather than quietly working around them. If repair work is something you want done, we can quote it; if you want to handle it with your own contractor, the photos give you a clear starting point.
Who this service is right for
Twice-yearly professional gutter cleaning makes financial sense for any Portland-area homeowner whose property has mature trees within fifty feet of the roofline — which is most of the metro. It’s especially right for two-story and hillside homes where DIY cleaning is either dangerous or impractical, for rental property owners who need photo-documented service records, for property managers handling multi-unit buildings, and for anyone who’s already noticed overflow stains on siding, dripping along fascia, or pooling at foundation corners. If you’re putting a home on the market in Lake Oswego or West Linn, clean and photographed gutters quietly remove an inspection-report finding.
Equipment, safety, and method
We hand-clean. That sounds old-fashioned, and it is — but it’s also why we don’t blow debris into landscape beds, scratch the gutter coating with hard tools, or spray needles all over a freshly-painted soffit. Crew members wear fall-arrest harnesses on steeper roofs, use stabilizer arms on extension ladders to avoid resting weight on the gutter itself, and walk only on roof surfaces rated to bear it (asphalt shingles in good condition, never on aged cedar shake or fragile tile). For high-pitch roofs we work from the ladder, not from the roof — which is slower but safer for both the crew and your roof’s lifespan.
What happens after the work
Same-day, you’ll receive a photo report by email or text covering every elevation we cleaned. The report includes notes on anything we noticed — a loose hanger here, a soft spot on the fascia there, moss starting at the north eave — so you have a written record. If we found nothing concerning, the report says so explicitly. We file a copy on our end as well, so when you call us next October for the seasonal cleaning, we already know what your home looks like.
If you’d like a free quote on gutter cleaning for your Portland-area home, the fastest path is a phone call — we typically have someone out within a few days, often the same week in the off-season.

How it works
- 1
Free written quote
We measure linear footage, story count, and roof pitch on a quick walk-around and quote a single fixed price before any work starts. No hidden trip charges, no hourly clock.
- 2
Hand-clean every gutter run
Crew members remove debris by hand into buckets — no leaf-blower spray onto siding or landscaping, and no tools that scratch the gutter coating.
- 3
Flush and pressure-test every downspout
We run water through each downspout to confirm it drains freely to the splash block or drain line. Clogs in elbows and underground drains are surfaced immediately.
- 4
Bag the debris and clean up
All needles, leaves, shingle grit, and roof debris are bagged and hauled off. We rinse adjacent siding and walkways so the only sign we were there is working gutters.
- 5
Photo proof and walk-through
You receive before-and-after photos of every section the same day, plus notes on any sagging hangers, rust spots, or fascia damage we noticed while we were up there.

Hand-cleaning gutters from the ladder
Why Portland homes specifically
Portland gutters fail for one reason: Douglas fir needles. Unlike maple leaves, conifer needles weave into a dense mat that holds water against the fascia through eight months of Pacific Northwest rain. By February, ungroomed gutters in neighborhoods like Sellwood, Multnomah Village, and the West Hills are overflowing onto foundations, soaking crawl spaces, and feeding moss colonies on the roof above. Twice-yearly cleaning — late fall after the needle drop, and again in spring — is what keeps PNW homes dry.
Frequently asked questions
- How often should I clean my gutters in Portland?
- Most Portland homes need gutter cleaning twice a year — once in late October or November after the Douglas fir needle drop, and again in spring to clear catkins, blossoms, and winter debris. Homes surrounded by mature conifers or big-leaf maples often need a third visit in midsummer. Skipping the fall cleaning is what we see cause overflow damage most often in the PNW.
- Do you clean two-story and three-story homes?
- Yes. Our crew is equipped and insured for two-story and three-story homes throughout the Portland metro, including hillside properties in the West Hills, Lake Oswego, and West Linn. We use stabilized extension ladders, fall-arrest gear on steeper pitches, and quote a single written price that already accounts for the added access work — no surprise upcharges on the invoice.
- Will the price change after you start?
- No — the price we quote you in writing before the job is the price you pay. We do not bill hourly, we do not add 'discovery' fees if the gutters are worse than expected, and we do not change the price if a downspout turns out to be clogged. The only add-on would be a separate service you approve in advance, like minor gutter repair.
- Do you flush the downspouts or just clear the troughs?
- We flush every downspout with water as part of the standard service. Clearing the trough but ignoring the downspout is how most homeowners end up with overflow at the same corner year after year. If a downspout is blocked deeper than we can clear from the top, we surface that finding immediately with photos and quote a repair option before doing more work.
- Will you send before-and-after photos?
- Yes — photo documentation is standard on every job, not an add-on. You'll receive images of each gutter run before work begins and after debris is removed, plus any problem spots we noticed (sagging hangers, rust, separated seams, fascia rot). Photos are sent the same day the work is completed so you can verify the job from anywhere, including rental and second-home owners.
- Are you licensed and insured?
- Yes. USA Gutter, Window, & Roof Cleaning is a bonded and insured exterior cleaning company in continuous operation since 2009. We carry general liability and workers' compensation on every crew, and we'll email proof of coverage before the job if you'd like to verify. We've been a Portland family-run business for more than 16 years.

What customers say
Had my cedar shake roof cleaned earlier this week. Had them return to seal and treat the roof. Once again the crew arrived on time (rare these days), got right to work and did a superb job. And just like last time, they cleaned up the work area and even used window-clean tools to clean the skylight. So they left leaving the place in better condition than when they arrived. It is SOOO refreshing to have a contractor (and the works) do what they said when they said and for the price quoted. These guys are GREAT!
